Historic Preservation Commission
The City of Niagara Falls Historic Preservations (HPC) commission was formed under Chapter 1335 Section 1335.04 of the Historic Preservation Law of the city of Niagara Falls. The HPC is composed of seven (7) members appointed by the Mayor or City Council for a four (4) year term. HPC meetings are generally scheduled on the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 745 Main Street. Meetings may be cancelled due to lack of agenda items or quorum.

Description Of Duties
Conduct an initial comprehensive survey of properties within the City and to conduct additional surveys as maybe necessary to further the purposes of this section.
Recommend designation of historic landmarks, sites and structures and districts to the City Council for its consideration.
Recommend to the City Council and Mayor that the City of Niagara falls acquire the fee simple or any lesser interest, development right, casement, covenant or other contractual right of a landmark site or historic structure by purchase, gift, grant. bequest, devise, lease or otherwise as necessary to carry out the purposes of this Chapter.
Recommend to the City Council and Mayor that the City of Niagara Falls restore, operate, lease, or sell a landmark site or historic structure. Leases or sales of such landmark sites and historic structures shall be upon such terms and conditions appropriate to ensure the maintenance of the historic quality of the landmark site or historic structure.
Make recommendations to the City Council concerning the utilization of public and/or private funds to promote preservation of landmarks, historic structures, and/or historic districts within the City.
Promogulated rules and regulations as necessary for the conduct of its business.
Increase public awareness of the value or historic. cultural and architectural preservation by developing and participating in education programs.
Approve or disapprove applications for Certificates of Appropriateness and for hardship.
