City of Niagara Falls Police Department From the Chief

Superintendent E. Bryan DalPorto

Dear visitor to this website:

I would like to welcome you to the Niagara Falls Police Department web site. It is designed to provide you with information on the Department’s Divisions and Units and our many community programs. The Niagara Falls Police Department currently has 155 sworn officers and 30 civilians, and handles approximately 65,000 calls for service annually.

The Niagara Falls Police Department is a strong proponent of the principles of community policing. We have a solid partnership with the community and work to build stronger neighborhoods. We are also committed to strengthening the crucial bonds of cooperation and support with our citizens, both through existing programs and through the initiation of new ones. Education and community partnerships are of paramount importance. That is why your Police Department sponsors programs like the Citizens Police Academy and the Youth Police Academy. We, as law enforcement professionals, are better able to respond to your needs by establishing stronger connections with all law abiding elements of our city and we will continue to do so. We are also cognizant of addressing quality-of-life issues in our community while maintaining respect for individual rights and dignity.

The Niagara Falls Police Department has successfully completed New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation. This prestigious step ensures that your Police Department is and shall remain one of the preeminent law enforcement entities in all of New York State.

A variety of initiatives, such as the Business District Initiative, Retail Crime Task Force, Gang Task Force, bike patrol, and Project Impact, have placed the Niagara Falls Police Department at the forefront of innovative and pro-active efforts to fight the conditions that hamper many urban areas. These programs are not enough to effectively combat the problems we as a community face. The Niagara Falls Police Department must be motivated and committed to solutions and approaches not traditionally associated with law enforcement. We would also like to thank our neighboring law enforcement agencies for their continued support in our “regional” crime fighting efforts.

The Niagara Falls Police Department has a rich and proud past. While we honor and treasure our heritage, we continue to move forward by keeping pace with modern law enforcement techniques and technology. By keeping our eyes on the past, but setting our sights on the future, we maximize our ability to serve the community. Niagara Falls is world renowned as a major tourist destination. It is also home to the Seneca Niagara Casino. The Niagara Falls Police Department is therefore committed to keeping the City safe, for not only our residents, but also the millions of people who visit here each year. As your Superintendent of Police, I pledge to commit all the resources and energies of your Police Department to making the City of Niagara Falls a safe and secure place for all our residents and visitors.

The Niagara Falls Police Department can only be successful in its efforts to “Serve and Protect” if the city government gives us the necessary support we require. I would be remiss if I did not recognize the diligence and hard work of our Mayor, Paul Dyster, and the City Council for providing the necessary tools to get this most important job done. Without their help and cooperation our task would be that much more difficult. On behalf of the men and women of the Niagara Falls Police Department, we invite you to browse the site to learn more about our Department. Have a great day.
