City of Niagara Falls Police Department Criminal Investigations (CID)

The Niagara Falls Police Department Criminal Investigation Division is seeking assistance in solving two Armed Robberies at Local Convenience Stores. A robbery took place at 6802 Buffalo Avenue (711 Store) on Monday – February 4, 2013 at approximately 11:00 pm. Two Suspects entered the store, produced a handgun, and robbed the store clerk. Burglary 3/Criminal Mischief 3/Larceny at 509 – 3rd Street (Niagara Coins) between 01/31/12 (1700 hrs) and 02/01/12 (1030 hrs), victim claims that Suspect broke open possibly multiple entry points, made entry, damaged the interior and stole an undetermined amount of coins, video surveillance captured the incident and the Suspect is a Black Male, if anyone has any information as to the Identity of the Suspect, contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 716-286-4553

Unit Mission, Purpose and Goals: The Criminal Investigation Division is comprised of the Detective Bureau, Identification Bureau, and the Warrant Services Unit.

The Detective Bureau is responsible of apprehension of criminals, identifying and collecting evidence, identifying and recording statements of potential witnesses and victims, interviewing suspects, and presenting facts to the appropriate court for prosecution. Detectives generally continue crime investigations (primarily felonies) when the responding Officer’s preliminary investigation is complete. Detectives use various means and solvability factors to reach successful conclusions to their cases. Good interpersonal communication skills and coordination of effort between various units and agencies are necessary to be successful.

Certain detectives also specialize in such investigative areas as homicide, arson, and sex offenses. Additionally, background investigations for prospective pistol permit candidates are handled by this unit.
