The Niagara Falls Police Department Emergency Response Team’s primary mission is to defuse violent and dangerous situations without further injury to victims, police officers, suspects or innocent bystanders. Our ultimate goal is to bring a peaceful resolution to all incidents in which we become involved.

E.R.T is comprised of nineteen highly trained and motivated officers. Assignment to E.R.T. is in addition to an officers regular departmental duties. All officers are drawn from various divisions within the department. They include, but are not limited to the Roving Anti-Crime Unit, Criminal Investigative Division, Narcotics and Intelligence Division, Traffic and Patrol Divisions.

Officers assigned to E.R.T. are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. E.R.T. Officers train a minimum of eight hours a month in areas which include building searches, high risk warrant service, barricaded suspects, hostage rescue, vehicle assaults, downed officer rescue, narcotics operations, dignitary protection and crowd control.
